What Acubia is NOT
Acubia is a clinical workflow tool that allows licensed practitioners to assemble and share exercise prescriptions with their patients. It is important that all users — practitioners and patients alike — understand the boundaries of what Acubia is and is not.
- NOT a medical device
- NOT a diagnostic tool
- NOT a substitute for in-person clinical assessment
- NOT a substitute for clinical judgment
Acubia provides a structured library of exercise content and a mechanism to deliver practitioner-selected exercises to patients. It does not interpret clinical findings, it does not recommend treatment, and it does not make any decisions on behalf of a practitioner or patient.
Practitioner Responsibility
The prescribing practitioner bears sole clinical responsibility for determining whether any exercise — whether drawn from the Acubia library or otherwise — is appropriate, safe, and indicated for a given patient. This responsibility includes, without limitation, evaluating patient history, contraindications, current presentation, functional capacity, and treatment goals.
Acubia provides a library and a delivery mechanism. All clinical decisions — including selection of exercises, dosage (sets, repetitions, hold times, frequency), progression, and when to modify or discontinue — remain exclusively the practitioner's. The presence of any exercise in the Acubia library does not imply endorsement of that exercise for any particular patient, condition, or clinical scenario.
Exercise Library
Exercises available within Acubia are general rehabilitation and conditioning movements commonly used across musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, and general wellness practice. Descriptions, demonstration videos, and suggested parameters are provided as reference material for licensed practitioners.
Whether any given exercise is safe or appropriate for any given patient is a clinical decision that only the treating practitioner can make, based on that patient's history, presentation, and goals. General movement descriptions cannot account for individual anatomy, comorbidities, prior injuries, surgical history, pain behaviour, or other factors that a clinician is trained to assess in person.
Patient Experience
When a patient scans a prescription QR code or opens a prescription link, they are shown:
- The specific exercises their practitioner selected for them
- The sets, repetitions, and hold times the practitioner configured
- Any clinical notes or instructions the practitioner added
The patient-facing page includes reminders to stop any exercise if pain sharply increases, and to contact their practitioner with any concerns about symptoms, technique, or progress.
Regulatory Status
Acubia has not been evaluated, cleared, approved, registered, or authorised by any medical device regulator, including but not limited to:
- the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Health Canada
- the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA, United Kingdom)
- the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA, Australia)
- any comparable regulator in any other jurisdiction
Acubia makes no medical claims. It is not marketed, sold, or distributed as a medical device, software as a medical device (SaMD), digital therapeutic, or clinical decision support system. It is offered strictly as a clinical workflow tool to help licensed practitioners deliver exercise content they themselves have selected to their own patients.
Safety Reporting
If a practitioner or patient becomes aware of a safety concern relating to any exercise video, written description, suggested parameter, or the delivery mechanism itself, they should report it to safety@acubia.com immediately.
We take safety reports seriously. Our target initial response time for a safety report is within one (1) business day, and we aim to complete triage and any necessary mitigation (such as temporarily withdrawing an affected exercise from the library) within five (5) business days of receipt. Please include as much detail as possible, including the exercise name, the nature of the concern, and any relevant patient presentation (without identifying information beyond patient initials).
No Warranty
Acubia is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Without limiting the foregoing, Acubia makes no warranty of medical accuracy, therapeutic benefit, fitness for any particular clinical purpose, suitability for any specific patient population, or patient outcome.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, all implied warranties — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement — are disclaimed. Use of Acubia is at the sole discretion and professional judgment of the prescribing practitioner.
